3 (who?)
Therapy and Pastries
A Neon Genesis Evangelion/My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Crossover

2 Hours after the Instrumentality of Man begins.
The case of Shinji Ikari.

The large room was barely illuminated, and even darker shadows clung to the corners of the raised stage in the center. Shinji sat on a metal folding chair in a small circle of light at the foot of the stage. He was alone. He was not in a good mood. Only hours earlier, everything had gone to hell. Quite literally. Everything he had fought for, everything his friends had died for, all of it was for nothing in the end.

Rei. Kaworu. Asuka. Misato. Kaji. Ritsuko. Touji. Kensuke. Father. Mother. All gone. Third Impact. All of humanity stripped of individual life and soul. All of reality existing only in one's own consciousness. A dark stage in a dark room. Instrumentality of Man.

"Why am I here?" Shinji asked.

"What are you, stupid?" Asuka snapped, "That's the best question you can come up with? You are such an idiot."

"But I don't understand what's happening," Shinji replied.

"All of humanity has become one," said Misato, "Shinji Ikari no longer exists."

"But…but I'm still me!" said Shinji.

"And who are you?" said Rei.

"You exist as the Shinji Ikari in your own mind," said Ritsuko, "Just as you exist as the Shinji Ikari in my mind."

"I don't understand," said Shinji.

"Every person exists as two people," said Kaji, "the individual you perceive as yourself, and the individual perceived by others."

"What does that mean?" Shinji asked.

"God, you're hopeless!" said Asuka.

"You are no longer bound to former perceptions of the world," said Rei.

"If you don't like this world," said Kaworu, "then make a new one."

"Can I…" Shinji paused, "could I make a world with no one else?"

"If that is what you want," said Gendo, Shinji's father.

"I…I think that is what I want," said Shinji.

"Holy moly, this is the most depressing party I've ever seen!" said Pinkie Pie.

Shinji spun around in his metal folding chair and stared in utter shock as the pink pony walked into the spotlight from behind him.

"Everybody's all sad and mopey! That's no fun for a party!"

"Oh right, my name's Pinkie Pie! Pleased to meet'cha!" she lifted her forelegs and shook Shinji's hands earnestly.

"I'm a pony, silly!"

"I don't understand," Shinji said as he looked around, "are you in my head, too? Are you part of Third Impact?"

Pinkie Pie shrugged.

Shinji's eyes fell to the floor again as his head rested in his hands.

"Then please go away," he said.

"Aww, why do you want me to leave?" asked Pinkie Pie, "Nobody likes being alone!"

"I do," said Shinji.

"How come?"

"Because being around other people has only made me hurt. My friends all wanted something out of me, my family betrayed me. The only person who ever showed me real, unconditional kindness died at my own hand, only a day after I met him! I'd be better off if I'd never known any of them."

"That's why you want to make a place where you'll be alone forever?" asked Pinkie Pie.

"Yes. That way I'll never have to be hurt again."

"But…you'll never have friends again, silly."

"Seems like a small loss right now."

Pinkie's expression changed from sadness to anger. This was the last straw. She raised her hoof and it collided with Shinji's face. Shinji fell back out of the metal folding chair and sprawled on his back. In his mouth was a large cupcake.

"Wha' ar' yo' doin'?!" Shinji asked frantically.

"You sit down and eat your cupcake!" glared Pinkie Pie.

Shinji did as he was told out of utter terror.

"Nopony's perfect!" Pinkie began, "As long as friends are together, somepony's gonna get hurt someday. That's just a big ol' fact of life! But that doesn't mean that all friendships have to end in tragedy! Think of all the fun times you had! Think of all the times being with others made you happy!

I'm so sorry about what happened with your friend. Losing someone should never be easy, but he wouldn't want you to be all sad all the time, would he?  Nope! He'd want you to get right back up and be happy and make new friends! Remember the happiness friendship can bring. You'll never have that again if you're forever alone! Don't you think the good times make the sad times worth it?"

Shinji swallowed the last of his cupcake, his eyes still on the floor.

"…But I'm a horrible person. I don't deserve friends."

Pinkie Pie set a large peach cobbler in his lap. Shinji reluctantly began eating.

"You feel that way 'cause you're so depressed all the time! Everypony has parts of themselves that they don't like! But friends see past that! Your friends were there for you, and they wanted to be with you because friends see the true blue you in each other's hearts! Friends support each other and help each other overcome their sad times!"

Pinkie Pie walked up and nuzzled her nose against Shinji's cheek. Shinji gasped.

"So what say we stop being sad and start being friends?" Shinji's gaze fell again, his bangs covering his eyes, but this time he shuddered as a single tear fell from under his hair.

"I," he said softly, "I can learn to be happy with myself in the real world, because my friends will help me."

"And even though I can't escape sadness, my friends will be there to comfort me."

"I…I don't want to be alone! Even if I'll feel pain, I want to be with other people! I want to be with my friends!"

"Yippee! That's the spirit!"

"Screw Instrumentality! I choose reality instead!"

The cracks that had suddenly been tearing through the surface of the stage and the room suddenly gave way, shattering into a bright, sunny day over a beautiful, green valley. Shinji stood in the center of a large group. Rei, Kaworu, Asuka, Misato, all his friends and family, everyone was smiling and applauding him.

"Congratulations!" they all said in unison.

"Congratulations!" said Pinkie Pie as she dropped a large cake into Shinji's arms, "Now this is a party!"

Shinji smiled with all his heart, the first time he could ever remember doing so.

"Thank you, everyone!"
How Evangelion SHOULD have ended. XD

This idea just popped into my head on the drive home from work, and I knew I HAD to write it.

For the non-Eva fans, this scene is lifted from the final two episodes of the series, and if you don't understand anything that's going on, good, because the ending makes absolutely no sense.
In a nutshell, the villains win, humanity's bodies are destroyed and their souls are merged into a single unity. And through an hour-long metaphysical, existential psychotherapy session, the hero rejects it in favor of reality. Only this time he has Pinkie Pie to help make things much easier to understand.

Because Pinkie Pie is awesome. :iconpinkiehithereplz:

You sly dog! You thought that in my inbox dump I'd miss this, didn't you? You thought that I'd delete it and not get to see that a fanficer still resides somewhere in your head, struggling to get out!
Well, your evil plot didn't work!

*puts on mining helmet* I'm going in and getting that fanficer outta there! Allons-y! *jumps into your skull*

...Oh and nice fic. Never saw Evangelion, but it was nice and heartwarming :)

AGH GET OUTTA MAH HEADDDDD :iconexplodingheadplz:

It's true...and this probably won't be the last time, either. -__-

It's...insanely complicated. The story is probably the most convoluted anime plot ever, and it leaves a whole ton of mysteries up to the viewer to piece together. There's a whole website devoted to explaining everyone's agendas and all the questions left unanswered. However, I highly recommend the Rebuild of Evangelion movies: Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone, and Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance. Part 2 just came out in America recently. The animation has been beautifully redone, the characters and plot are much more mentally stable, and the battles are freaking amazing. It's definitely worth checking out.

Oh, and I also wanted to ask, how do you go about putting your pony pics in the fan clubs? @_@

NO! I must save the fanficer in you! :iconherotimeplz:

That's god to hear... for me at least :iconevilgrinplz:

I dunno man. I start scratching my head trying to watch the most basic of anime. The more convoluted it is the more my head might explode.

In all my cases they came to me and sent a request for it to be displayed. You could probably send them a comment with a link to it, though...

I've already got too much right now, what with finishing the kiribans before round 3 starts, then round 3, plus my other crossovers, and a new inspiration I got from a horror manga...

This one's worth it, though! WATCH IT WATCH IT O3O

:iconfacehoofplz: ...fine. do you have a link?
Atomic-Chinchilla Featured By Owner May 10, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Sadly, no. Funimation's real uptight about it being on youtube. You can easily get them from Netflix or Blockbuster or a library. I'd recommend that, since the resolution would be best on a DVD.

...I don't have access to Netflix, Blockbuster or a Library (since my library card expired).

Then just get a new card! They're free!

Which is why Evangelion is a series I dislike primarily because of Asuka's attitude.

Asuka was intentionally unlikeable, and she was very grating. Have you by chance seen Rebuild of Eva yet? Her personality is altered very slightly in a more positive direction, and it makes a huge difference.

Never saw it.

I recommend it. The animation is beautiful and the battles epic. The overall feel of the movies is much more mentally stable than the tv series.
